Baptism
1.) The Holy Spirit baptizes us in Jesus.
“For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body— whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” -1 Corinthians 12:13 (NIV)
2.) The disciples baptize us in water.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” - Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
3.) Jesus baptized us in the Holy Spirit.
“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” - Matthew 3:11 (NIV)
“I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” - Mark 1:8 (NIV)
“John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” - Luke 3:16 (NIV)
“And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” - John 1:33 (NIV)
Types of Baptism:
a.) Salvation - when we are saved, we are born again. When we are born again, we are born as children of God.
b.) Water Baptism
"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. [14] But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him." -Matthew 3:13-17 (NIV)
c.) Baptism in the Holy Spirit
"Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert," -
Luke 4:1 (NIV)
"You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him." - Acts 10:37-38 (NIV)
