Why Are You So Afraid?

Life has fears and risks. We face them every single day. We are walking in uncertain times; hysteria and reports in our media that cause worry, fear, or stress. In this message, Pastor Denny Curran answers the question, “How do we survive tough times?”

Mark 4:35-41

In Mark 4, the disciples were in the biggest storm they’ve ever experienced. The wind and waves crashed around them. In one moment, Jesus stood up and calmed the squall. The questions of Jesus in their storm and ours is “Why are you afraid?” The disciples were ALL afraid. It’s human nature to be afraid in a crisis! Too often, we live as the disciples and exclude God, allowing ourselves to live in fear. It’s not the absence of storms that make us different, it’s the ONE we discover in the boat.

To get through tough times, we must focus. Our perspective can show us an obstacle or an opportunity. Don’t focus on the things that bring you down. The disciples focused on the wind and waves crashing around them, the lightning and thunder hiding the shore. We are challenged to focus on the positive! Focus on HIS Word. Next, we must have faith! We demonstrate our faith in Christ by what we do and how we live. Faith is an active trust in God, or belief in what he says is true that results into actions. Lastly, we need family and friends. We need community. Take this time to really connect with your loved ones. We stand on truth of scripture that He HAS delivered us, He WILL deliver us and He WILL continue to deliver us.
