A Place Called This
Mark 4:35-41 (NIV)
"That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
This weekend, we took our Church on the Move to the lake! In this sermon, we are going to talk about how to go from HERE to THERE, but to do that there is a place called “THIS,” between here and there. During this season, we have experienced a lot of loss. Graduations, weddings, funerals, family gatherings, etc. have been cancelled and we have had to give up a lot of things. You feel that God’s “asleep," or absent - that’s the place you call “THIS.” In this teaching, we learn that the greatest takeaway is that to get from the here to there, you have to keep g(rowing). Crisis doesn’t make us, it reveals who we really are! It’s tough to know in a storm or tough season, but the only way to get out of your “this” is to keep moving and growing! We want to challenge you to take this obstacle as an opportunity for growth. Stay tuned with us over the upcoming weeks as we continue to be a church on the move!
